Uniforms and Practice

We had registration last night, and have 12 great kids for our team! We've ordered the uniforms, they'll be here in a couple weeks.

Practices will start on Tuesday, November 4th, from 5-7 pm, at the Team Takedown Gym (the old RV Center behind Freedom Ford).  We'll practice every Tuesday and Thursday from here on out. If that changes, we will let you know.

As of right now, our first event will be the North Sevier Tournament on November 15th. The cost is $10 per wrestler, and you register online at Track Wrestling. We'll post a direct link to register when it gets closer.

We're looking forward to a great season! See you on Tuesday!

Wrestling Gear

We've had a few parents ask for suggestions on what gear their kids might need this year for wrestling. We only require the team singlet, but here's a short list of optional items that we think are important:

*Shoes. Yes, you can wrestle in your socks or bare feet. But wrestling shoes are designed to give the wrestler support and better traction on the mat. If your child is going to be serious about wrestling, get them a good pair of shoes. They do make a difference.

*Headgear. There are so many different types and brands of headgear out there. After trial and error, the best we've found so far is the Cliff Keen Tornado. It's a little bit pricier than some other headgear out there, but it's proven better than all the others we've tested. It's lightweight and very comfortable. Plus, the wrestler can still hear when they've got it on. I don't think any of the duals or tournaments in our area will require headgear this year, but if your child is going to wrestle in high school, they need to get used to wearing it. Plus, who wants cauliflower ear anyways?

*Compression Tights. Not every wrestler wears these, but they do offer an extra layer of protection (and coverage) under their singlet, and make it easier to slide on the mat. If you do get your wrestler some compression tights, we suggest the ones with stirrups on them. This keeps them in place during matches.

*Compression Shorts. If you don't go with the tights, compression shorts are a good idea. They help with coverage under the singlets. Almost every sport uses compression shorts, so your wrestler should get pretty good use out of them.

*Knee Pads. These are used mainly in practice, but some wrestlers do prefer them during matches. They help avoid mat burns when sliding across the mat, and also help you slide on the mat easier if you don't wear compression tights.

*USA Card. If you're planning on going to any of the tournaments in Northern Utah (Super State, Salt Lake Slam, etc.) or the Beehive Brawl in Richfield, you'll need a USA Card. You can follow the link we've listed in the side bar to get one.
